A student who did not even know that News is an acronym for North east west south till almost her 10th grade(yes so very ignorant), wont touch the newspaper voluntarily, except the supplement which has a whole lot of crap to pass time is pursuing journalism! I really am not able to recall why I voluntary chose the subject??! Oh it was something about my strong communication skills..oh yes.. Its journalism with mass communication.. I can give the weather forecast on some news channel. :D
I really never understood why do I have to read things that do not concern me in anyway? Why should I know who is the UN's secretary? Why should I know what is hurricane Katrina or who is the president of France(with the model wife). Just day before yesterday I was in my consumer education class,(we have it as a general elective subject) when out of the blue the Teacher asked all the journalism students to raise their hands, she looked at me and asked how many newspapers do I get at home? I said two, and she was like "only two? how shameful, you being a journalism student!", as if journalism students get newspapers for free. I gave some counter-argument and we ate each others head for a while and then the topic was changed I guess.
Even our journalism madam gets very disheartened that not a lot of the journalism students read the news(see I am not the only one), but anyway I have started reading the newspaper from almost a week and it is actually good fun and obviously informative(you get to know things like: its raining dead tadpoles in China!).
I have been able to add up a little to my zero general knowledge, and hopefully I will keep up to the new habit(oh wait technically its not a habit yet).
Anyway I guess I will go watch the repetitive crazy news on Aaj tak(why does it keep winning the best news channel award?). Whatever....
